First
sketches in Photoshop - kept deliberately rough as I was aiming to spend
no more than 8 hours on this painting. Drawn on a seperate layer using
a print of one of my own photos as reference.

base skin layer added, underneath the drawing layer, with solid mid-tone skin colour and lips and eyes blocked in. Already altering the size of the eyes. I'm not too bothered about the accuracy of the colours at this point. A dark base layer for the hair is then roughly filled in above the skin layer. |

Beginning to model the skin tones with a hard-edged brush at 25% opacity set to pen pressure - on a new layer above the skin base colour. Picking colours from the basic swatches pallette. The nose has been made slightly bigger than the original drawing |

More colour added - bringing in lighter areas - still using the same, low opacity hard-edged brush. Using a large brush for the skin and getting progressively smaller to add detail around the eyes. Using the alt key to sample mid tones. |

Continuing the same process to refine detail |

Selected the hair base layer and loaded it's selection, then made a new layer above it with the selection still visible. Press Ctrl h to make the selection disappear from the screen and start to paint in the tones of the hair. Starting with darker reds, purple and pinks, using the same large brush and following the direction of the hair. Used the blur tool to soften this layer then painted again with slightly lighter tones and a smaller brush. Repeated this process with progressively smaller brushes and lighter colours. |

Added more hair to the left of the picture on the original hair base layer. |

Made the left eye smaller and slightly enlarged the right one. Started to add texture to the skin with small hard edged brush at slightly higher opacity. |

Hair shadows added on a new layer underneath the hair base layer. I also added a red hair tint layer above the hair paint layer with the blending layer set to hard light. More work on the hair and chin definition on the left side of the face. Fingers are starting to be a problem getting them to look like they were covered in the hair dye she had used on her hair. |

Piercings added on a seperate layer.Highlights added to the hair - on another seperate layer so I could play around with the opacity and blur. Used a small brush at 90% opacity with flow jitter set to maximum. Texture added to the skin highlights - particularily the forehead using one of Tascha's speckled brushes at 50% opacity. |
